Asian reflections - Urns and Memorial Statues
Quan Yin (or Kwan Yin) means "one who hears the cries of the world". Her five major virtues are compassion, mercy, courage, justice and wisdom. She is also known as the Goddess of Compassion. In Chinese Buddhist tradition she is a soul who has attained enlightenment and no longer needs to reincarnate, but chooses to remain on the earthly plane until all of humanity has been lifted out of ignorance and misery.
Ganesha is known in India as "the Remover of Obstacles", having overcome the huge obstacle of his head being chopped off by acquiring the head of an elephant. He is the most beloved of the Hindu gods, the god of wisdom and knowledge, education, and the fine arts.
